Analysis
As can be seen from the ASI for October, 2016, planting has begun for winter crops (mainly barley, wheat and winter vegetables), and early signs of growth can be seen only in localised areas of north-west Syria. Dry planting was initiated for mostly barley whereas for wheat and winter vegetables planting will mostly occur between November and December. Although there has not been signicant rainfall in Syria in the month of October, it is still much too early in the growing season to see an impact on the crop growing season. Most likely conict, timely access to agricultural inputs and access to arable land will have a greater impact in the coming months.
Please note that since the ASI is based on Remotely Sensed data only, there is no conrmation on what crops have been planted.
